Pelham Girl Scouts Participate and Recognize Veteran’s Day
Over 75 Pelham Girl Scouts participated in Veteran’s Day recognition events starting with the preparation of the annual distribution of Thank A-Vet goody bags with Troop 1657 baking treats for over 175 goody bags for distribution in Pelham and area nursing homes.
Troop 1657 distributed over 175 paper bags for decorating to Girl Scout Troops aged 6 to 17 years old. The decorated paper bags were collected and then filled with baked goods, flag magnets and thank you notes. Between November 10th & 11th over 175 Veterans were visited in their homes and delivered the bags by the Girl Scouts. Below are Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies and Juniors delivering treats and having fun while recognizing the Service of our Veterans.
Pelham Girl Scouts also participated in the Town of Pelham’s Veteran’s day ceremony. Former Mayor, Joe Durnin led the ceremony and wrapped up with a sincere thank you to Pelham's Girl Scouts for continuing the recognition of veterans with the personal delivery of bags each year. He remarked the goodies were delicious, but the thank-you cards and notes on the bags are the most appreciated. A Girl Scout Brownie leader who was present at the ceremony with her Scouts & said she hopes to choose the same streets next year, because they had such a nice experience meeting veterans at home! Pelham Girl Scouts welcome additions to the distribution list, if there are any new veterans, or if you received a bag for veteran that has moved, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
